Are You Having Trouble Selecting the Best Pre-Engineered Steel Building to Suit Your Needs?

Choosing the best pre-engineered steel building system for any project is important, and making the wrong decision because you have failed to take certain aspects into consideration can result in a building that does not meet your needs. Despite your building system choice, the combination of both the structural and architectural requirements must be satisfied. Steel structures are widely accepted for storage, warehousing, and industrial uses. However, some more modern uses for metal buildings include sanctuaries, sports venues, and entertainment facilities.

Construction time is another significant factor in the selection of structure method. If you need to have your building constructed reasonably quickly, then an all-steel building system is the preferred choice over any traditional or conventional process. Conventional erection costs are higher than those for premium quality metal construction because they figure in more time consumed on the project site. If you purchase the cheapest pre-fabricated, pre-engineered steel structure, you will not be able to realize full cost-efficiencies. However, a steel building system that will increase expense performance during the total building project is the building to buy.

If you are worried about fire, you should opt for the high-grade metal because it is nonflammable. However, cheaper metal structure systems constituting flimsier metal may be difficult to treat with fire retardants, jeopardizing the overall safety. Single story premium quality pre-engineered steel structures usually fall into a “unprotected, non-combustible” category and do not require fire retardant treatments.

It is best to take into account all planned or potential enlargement to the steel structure and decide how adaptable you need it to be during the planning stages to ensure that the framework will support any future growth. When a rigid scheme of construction is utilized and both the secondary and primary structures are inflexible, future expansion is not always possible.

The ground at the project site may also determine the style of pre-engineered steel building system you can use. “Good” soil type is essential. In particular, “good” ground means that economy spread footings can be used at the building base. If the soil is suspect, on the other hand, you may need more costly and labor intensive deep foundations. Do not use a weighty and inflexible all-steel building system if soil conditions are suspect because settling of the surrounding earth may result in problems.

All of these factors should be considered carefully before any metal building type is selected. Do not necessarily opt for your very first choice of steel structure–analyze all of the aspects and a more appropriate selection may become apparent. A final decision can be more easily made if you invite professionals such as manufacturers and designers to offer their opinions and advice.
