Since it was formed in 1956, the Metal Building Manufacturers Association has been influential in supporting and promoting the pre-engineered metal building industry. The Association ensures membership concordance on safety and coverage regulations, code use, and design guidelines.
The MBMA takes a special interest in presenting engineering improvements and guidelines to metal structure producers. Before the establishment of the MBMA, producers could set their own architectural guidelines and understandably this led to discrepancies in reliability and quality issues. The superior quality of today’s modern pre-engineered and pre-fabricated metal structures can arguably be attributed to the MBMA’s own guidelines.
The MBMA’s commitment to safety procedures and research has resulted in substantial progress in the area of pre-engineered metal building wind resistance. Wind tunnel analysis undertaken in the 1970s helped further this particular area of advancement. Subsequent research ventures have encouraged and sponsored fire rating, thermal studies and snow loading experimentation. The MBMA sponsors many research programs each year, thus providing considerable engineering leadership.
The MBMA’s many publications, both past and present, have outlined its principles concerning correct all-metal roofing configuration, and various industry market reviews, reports and other informational materials all highlighting the details, features and advantages of pre-engineered metal structures. For nearly half a century, the MBMA has also produced a reference publication that is an essential resource for people in the industry. The publication encompasses such subjects as the features of good design, proper structural loads and other manufacturing methods and applications.
The Association is proudly involved with certification programs for metal building manufacturers. Instructional materials produced by the MBMA attempt to ensure professional quality metal building products throughout the fabrication process as well as correct design procedures right through to the finalization stages of structures. Located in Ohio, the U.S. Metal Building Manufacturers Association is the most influential and substantial pre-engineered metal structure firm and is regarded as a highly valuable resource.
